Secret and Lies

Shot 1

Within this scene the first shot shows the outside of the shop in daylight, which shows the main focus of the shop and the sunlight shining onto the special paintings.
The scene where the photography is being taken there is 4 shot- medium. It shows the boy acting uncomfortable by his body language, as he looks fed up; his clothing is very dull as he is wearing black with dark trousers which can symbolizes a British boy. The older man in the scene also looks uncomfortable and irritated because the photographer man goes to sort out his tie when he can do it himself as his is quite old. The main spotlight is on the woman (mother) she is acting confident and her facial expressions
The photographer has a strong cockney accent.

Shot 2

This is a medium shot
Lighting - The lighting in this shot is generally focused on the mans body, so can see that he is very toned and muscled but there is no music in this scene because all we can he is his aggressive voice raring and shouting at the photographer. This adds tension to the shot.
Costume in this scene is very simple he has a pair of boxer shorts on and a pair of gloves, which symbolizes that he is a boxer.
Hair – his hair in this extract is very simple because he has none on his head.
Body language – Body language is very aggressive and he looks hyperactive he seems excited about what he is doing.
Facial expressions in this shot similar to his body language because he is aggressive towards the photographer, but he is also having a joke around by doing silly poses and laughing about it.
Representations of Britishness - He doesn’t really represent britishness because he isn't wearing the British colours. His gloves are red so it could represent love towards this sport or anger and death, because his sport is very aggressive. It could also signify that he is a violent person as red could also represent blood.
Use of stereotypes – This man could be stereotyped because if his colour, and maybe that he could be an aggressive violent person when really he could just be acting and be the complete opposite.
Why have stereotypes been used –Stereotyped could be used to put people in groups for example colour or the sport they do.
Shot 3
The woman in this scene is very dull and boring, her makeup and costume is very plain, and ordinary (nurses) she's from the Asian ethnicity and upset therefore she could be from Viet Nam war. The lighting is based around her face. Her facial expressions are very blank and strong her body language has a guard up and shows to be quite uncomfortable but a strong individual she looks powerful but upset at the same time. There is not much that she says and takes a lot for the photographer to make her smile she comes across as she’d rather no conversation. The light on her face creates more impact to look at her sadness. The colour blue which she is wearing can signify the emotion of being sad as blue reflects as an emotional colour she may be feeling ‘blue’. The stereotype that can reflect from the woman in the video is that Asian affinity does not like this country is dull because of the affect Britain has on the Asian effnic.

Shot 4
Mise-en-scene – woman in white with a baby with no clothes on her hair looks messy and her makeup is not visible. Her body language seems like she is comfortable with her baby but is nervous for her the picture she does not seem to take her eyes of the baby. The light is bright and her clothes blend into the background, there skin stands out as everything is white and the main focus of the scene shows you to look at the baby. This could be stereotyping the typical over protective British mother. The colour shows a white innocent colour however this could be contradicting the stereotypical young mother struggling with her baby however this shows differently.

Shot 5
This shot is a mid shot because they only show half of their body.
Costume – The costumes in this shot are mostly all the same because the lady is wearing red and the blanket on the table is also red, this could show that the lady is not important in the shot as she blends in with the blanket. But it also doesn’t make the dog stand out either because his fur blends into the background colour, but the main thing that stands out is the collar on the dog because its blue and nothing else in the shot is this sort of colour.
Hair – The dogs hair in this shot is a little scruffy this is why the lady who’s dog is it comb’s his hair to make him look more presentable for the camera. The lady’s hair is also a little messy which shows that she maybe hasn’t made an effort, as she’s not the one getting a picture taken.
Body language – the dog looks a bit aggregated because of the lady keep combs his under his chin, which makes the dog, also look very fed up. The women looks like she's trying to get into the shot as much as she can, this could show jealously that she isn’t in the picture which her dog. But it might be controversial because she might just want to make her dog look good in the photos.
Facial expressions on the dog stay the same because dogs don’t really have expressions but the lady is uncertain that the dog is in the right position because she is getting involved too much and in the end they don’t get a good photograph as the comb was in it.
Sound and Light – The lighting in this shot is focused on the dog in the middle, but this is not clear, as it is quite a bright shot. This adds a clear impression to the shot that the women has a good relationship with her dog, because some dog may be scared of a camera but this dog looks very calm.
Representations of Britishness -    You can tell that they are both British from her skin colour and also what she is wearing.
Stereotypes - You could stereotype this as many old women have a pet to keep them company.

Shot 6
Mise-en-scene – The elderly woman is wearing black to blend in the background to show that the cat is the most important in the picture, her hair is casual, her makeup is quite plain and the only visible makeup is the lipstick she is wearing, her body language is not really shown as she is constantly looking at the cat to make sure it is ok however this can mean that she is uncomfortable as she is standing behind the chair and the cat her facial expressions are quite cheerful and happy. The sound does not really affect this scene as she concentrating on her cat. This can be stereotypical towards elderly women that are more concerned about their cats than anything else. This is portrayed by the constant looking and touching of the can and when she asks the photographer how the cat not her is doing. This is a negative stereotype as this shows she is obsessed with her cat and nothing else which can look embarrassing for the British nation.

Shot 7
Costume – his clothing is very smart, as he is wearing a tie and a suit and with his hair combed back.
Body language - he hasn’t got much body language he looks quite frustrated in his face because the man is not very interested in what he is saying. And he’s trying to make a joke about it and he’s not interested and you can tell this with his facial expressions as he’s doing a fake laugh.
Sound and Light - The sound is a little bit echo that could show dullness and the lighting at the end when the flash goes out make it look like that he is the main focus.
Representations of Britishness - it doesn’t really show brutishness as they talk about his aunt in India, and he speaks in slang using words like ‘init’.
Colour – Colours are brown and dull, which could signify he race. And also his clothes blend into the background that could show he is quite a shy person.

Shot 8
Costume - He is dressed with bow tie and suit; he is also wearing a faze to show
he is unusual.

He has a moustache, which is in an abnormal shape, which again shows he is
unusual.

It looks like he has grey hair underneath his faze which shows he is past middle
age.

Lighting - The lighting used is a key light and a filler light so that there is no
shadow. This is to show he is the main protagonist and the camera is all on
him.

Make-up - His make-up looks pretty natural, which shows his natural side and
shows he isn’t all unusual.

Body Language - His body language shows he’s not extremely comfortable,
especially when he says ‘no I don’t want flash’ with his hand up and in front of
him.

Representations of Britishness - Britishness is shown through his accent.

Use of stereotypes - He is shown as another typical guy showing he doesn’t
really want his photo taken but he has to.

Shot 9
Costume - The ladies are wearing old-style clothing, to which some are
revealing fleshes; this shows how desperate they are. The ladies in the blue
stands out a bit more than the other ladies because of her blue costume, where
as the other ladies are wearing black.

Hair- Two of the ladies is ginger, and the other one is fake blonde, this shows
their separate personalities.

Make-up - Their make-up looks a bit fake, with red lipstick, which shows they
are posing for a photo.

Body language and facial expressions - The way two of the ladies are standing
up with both their mouths open shows that they are being a bit cheeky, as well
as the one with the blue on is sticking her bum out and the other own is
showing a bit of her breasts also shows how desperate they are too look nice
and young. The other women sitting down shows that she is a bit more relaxed
with the way she is sitting, and with her legs crossed shows she is in a more
comfortable position.

The woman sitting down is smiling at the camera which also shows she is quite
comfortable.

Whereas the other two women have their mouths open which either shows they
are aiming to be cheeky / naughty, and they are either really comfortable or a
bit nervous.
Sound and Light - The lighting used is a key light, with a filler light to stop the
shadows in the background.

Representations of Britishness – They represent British in a bad way because of
their behavior because basically there are acting inappropriate for their age.
Colour – The lady in blue really stands out because the background is a
brownie colour and the other lady’s are wearing black. She could be wearing
this to symbolize her behavior.

Use of stereotypes - The stereotypes of these ladies show that they are trying to
act younger than what they are, and are trying to be something they are not.

This shows us how desperate they are to wanting to be young and wild again.

Shot10
Costume - The young girls are all dressed in blue ballerina outfits, which show they are very feminine, and how young they are, but you would think they would be in pink ballet outfits because pink is stereotyped to be a girl’s colour and blue is more like a boys colour.
This also shows that they are all sisters.
The mother is also dressed in blue which shows her relationship towards her daughters and that they are close and also her dress is also quite old fashioned which shows she is a mum.
The make-up lady is dressed in her outfit that she is most likely to be in when doing a shoot, just the normal t-shirt and shorts.
Hair – The three little girl’s hair is all tied up the same, which could show that the mum loves them all the same and makes the same effort on all of them to get them ready. But then you can see that she is only sorting out the girl on the ends tutu.
Make up - The girl’s make-up is all the same, this also represents that they are sisters.
Body language - The girl’s body language show that they are sister again, with the same leg in front and holding each other. This also represents their relationship and how close they are. Their body language also represents that they are ballerinas with the way they are posing.
Makeup -The mothers and the make-up ladies body language are natural as they are just helping the girls get ready for the photo shoot. The girls facial expressions look a bit confused and fed up, you can tell that they just want to get on with the shoot that they are supposed to be doing.
Sound and Light - The lighting used it key lighting which show that the 3 young girls are and will be Centre of attention.
Representations of Britishness - Britishness is shown with the mother and make-up ladies accent, and the girl’s typical ballerina costumes.
Colour – Again the 3 girls in blue stand out from the background, but then the mother has a slightly darker dress, which blends in with the background more.
Use of stereotypes - The stereotype shown here is 3 young sisters doing ballet, because at a young age, it is a stereotype for young girls to do a type of dancing, nearly every girl did some type of dancing at a very young age.

Shot 11

Costume - The young boy is wearing a little smart suit which shows he is going
to have a photo shoot done for a special occasion due to his smartly dressed
clothes.

The boy’s hair is blonde which shows his cuteness in the shoot, his hair is also
smartly slick back into a nice smart style.

Make-up - The boy’s make-up looks natural.

Body language - The boy’s body language looks natural and comfortable as he
is shown picking his nose, which shows he is in a comfortable situation, as he
would do that anyway where ever he is.

Facial expressions - His facial expression looks pretty natural as well as if he
doesn’t know what's going on but he doesn’t really care, this shows just how
young he is.

Sound and Light - The lighting here is a key light and a filler light to show
no shadows.

His smart clothing and blonde hair show the young boy’s britishness
representations of Britishness -.

Colour - The boy’s waist coast is a similar colour to the chair he is sitting on,
his parents have probably chosen these colours to show their passion and love
for their son.

Use of stereotypes - The boy is shown as a typical young boy stereotype as he is
shown picking his nose, and not giving a damn with what’s going on.

Horror Still Image

I believe my horror still images are very effective presenting the idea of the film of mysterious horror I believe the image intreges you into wanting to know what happens. Image two presents an unknowing of what happens as it looks quite scary and creates a mystery on what has happened to the character and what part she plays in the film. Whereas image two is more obvious as she is holding a weapon which shows the character.
The  image I believe attracts and brings the person to look at the whole image.
I did not do very much planning however the planning that I did was changed as when I was taking the pictures I had visions of other ideas which I thought would be better to use. Therefore my planned image was not produced as I created these two images instead.
I used different types of editing to bring effect to the characters face as i believe that is most importants. Image 2 she is presened as light skin however I have created her face darker her costume and makeup are created to look dark against her light skin, with the water reflecting off her from the light of the flash.
Image 1 makes the main focus as the face, also reflects the light of the knife to give good effect that shows that the prop is important part of the image and connects to the film.

Exemplifying Camera Movements

Panning Shot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ds9LTr_m0Y8

Movement of the camera from left to right or right to left around the imaginary vertical axis that runs through the camera. This example shows the camera in the same position whilst pivoting round to show the whole setting instead of just a frame of the shot. As this is a setting of the sea the panning shot is very slow movement however panning shots also work well with fast moving shots to show the impact of how fast e.g a car is driving.

Tracking Shot

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCG6CMFbPiI&playnext=1&list=PLA820016E4EE77D57&index=30

Tracking shot/dollying shot is the terms used for a shot when the camera is being moved by means of wheels.
The movement is normally quite fluid and the tracking can be either fast or slow. Depending on the speed of what the camera is following. In this example of Pulp Fiction the tracking shot follows the character and uses different angles within this shot which shows the setting as well as being in direction on the main character which focusing on.

Wipe Pan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qLKxiOaTnO4&feature=player_embedded

An optical effect in which an image appears to "wipe-off" or push aside the proceeding image ,normally used as a transition from one scene to another or to show a change in time. Very common in the 1930s; less so today. Within this example the camera shot goes from one setting to another using wipe pan, quite fast however theses are most used in faster scenes example car races the wipe pan will go from one car to another.

Aerial Shot

 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vPutHJ4qCss

A shot taken from a crane, plane, or helicopter. Not necessarily a moving shot.
Within this example the director has used this type of camera shot filming directly above the subject to show what the subject is doing as any other angle would not show the scene to its advantage.
Worms-eye view

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtdK_4V4BH8&feature=player_embedded

A worm's-eye view is a view of an object from below, as though the observer were a worm; the opposite of a bird's-eye view. A worms eye view is used commonly for third perspective when you put one vanishing point on top one on the left and one on the right. This is an example of a worm's eye shot in slow motion. The shot shows the ball in a better position as we see the ball when it leaves the floor and it gradually turns into a long shot this shows the intensity of the shot. Worm's eye view shots are generally used to emphasize the subject.

Crash Zoom

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gd_-vGQrL-8

An extremely fast zoom in, usually done with the manual zoom. The example shows a fast shot of the world zooming into what the subject is about showing the surroundings before meeting the subject.
